How to Maximize Effective Use of SmartCat Litter:

  • Use a high sided litter box. Natural litters have lighter content than clay litters and can get kicked out of the box easier.
  • Place at least 3" - 4" of litter in the litter box. Most cats will dig in the litter box before eliminating. SmartCat litter is designed to be used at a minimum of 3 inches. When proper litter depth is maintained, you will find that cleaning the box is hassle free and takes less time than other litters.
  • Some cats urinate in the same spot every time. After scooping the box, it may help to leave extra litter piled up in that spot for greater absorption if the cat uses it repeatedly.
  • Scoop your litter box clean every day. Wait until 20 minutes after your cat has used the litter to allow the litter to clump firmly.
  • A good mat for catching tracked litter, placed at the box opening, is recommended. A mat will strip most of the litter from the cat's paws and can be shaken over the box when scooping is done to clean up.
  • SmartCat litter eliminates scraping litter from the side or bottom of the box. Let the litter properly dry and the clump will actually pull away from the box.
